Now we can proceed and choose the folder where we want WinRar to be installed. By default it´s "C:Program filesWinRar", we can change it by clicking on "browse".
After having pressed the install button, the installation will begin.
Once it is finished, the setup will ask us to choose file associations and where we want to places the icons.
We can also set file associations and "Shell integration" - that is, how we want Winrar to work with Windows Explorer.
Winrar is presented with a clean and intuitive interface.
Compressing files or folders is easier than it looks, we just have to choose the files and folders we want to compress and the click on the "add" button as shown below.
Finally, we must choose a name for the file, the format and the kind of compression that will be used.
We can also split files using different volumes, such as DVD, CD, Floppy Disk, etc; or we can just set a custom value.
Another simple way to compress files and folders, is selecting
- while holding down the Control Key
- from Windows Explorer the ones we want to compress, then right on any of them and this will show the compression options.
We also have two possibilitie:
• Add to archive...: This window allows us to set the compression method, set a name and the directory where we want to create it and much more, such as password encryption.
• Add to "file name.rar": It will automatically compress and create the archive with the configuration we set.
To extract files we also have two possibilities:
One of them is double clicking on the archive. This will open Winrar, once inside can you the button "extract to"
...or else, by doing right click over the archive, using three different options:
Extract files: This option will open the program´s window allowing us to set destination folder.
Extract Here: Decompresses the archive in the current directory.
Extract to "filename": This option creates a folder with the archive´s name y decompresses everything inside it.
Autoexec files
Autoexec files are created in the same way as rar/zip, except you have to tick the "Create SFX archive". These files don’ t need a decompressor.
